Where Democracy Ends, Dictatorship BeginsAfera Gebru (September 20, 2001) Since the Prime Minister Meles Zenawi mob rule has started, the current situation in Ethiopia continues widening the cycle of violence. The possibility of a lasting political settlement is gone in the direction of never land. The crisis is profoundly deeper than many political actors may have realized. A fundamental factor has been the Prime Minister that has eliminated or blocked the function of all institutions under his decree.
Emergency contact listEthiopia’s Millennium Spirit Rises High: The Edmonton 2001 Case By Asghedom G. Michael, Edmonton, Canada Sep. 2001 "Ethiopia, one of the ancient nation states of the world, possesses glorious wealth of history and heritage of mystic proportions. Being a mother of millions of world-class heroes and heroines, her recorded history tells it all that Ethiopia humiliated her enemies who ventured to violet her sovereignty and territorial integrity. Those enemies from near and those from afar continents of Europe and other places had to suffer the same fate of humiliation in the hands of Ethiopian patriots."
"Eritrea Vs Ethiopia Or Eritrea With Ethiopia?"
Addis Tribune (Addis Ababa)OPINION by Brhane Habte-Mariam (September 7, 2001) In the first place the "independence" of Eritrea from Ethiopian "colonialism" (or "Africanism" depending on one's perspective) or the secession of Eritrea from its Ethiopian homeland is the most unjust political settlement in the history of modern Africa. Eritrea's "independence" was a landmark among the many injustices in the history of Africa, because it was the first time a united African nation was forced to break into two states. (Analysis from scholar point of view – Must read) Democracy in the Context of Ethiopian PoliticsBy Dr. Ghelawdewos Araia (August 16, 2001) ..."In fact, in order for this society to enjoy democracy, the leadership [state, party or otherwise] must operate democratically within its own parameters. A leadership that is not democractic cannot possibly persue democractic processes in the larger society, and may even resort to banning some basic democractic rights such as freedom of speech and writing, freedom to demonstrate and assemble peaceably, and freedom of inclusion in the political and decision making process. If these fundamental rights are not enjoyed and practiced by the Ethiopian people, then there is no need of logical thinkering. That means, there is no democracy and that is very dangerous."... VIEWS AND VISIONS ON THE PRESENT POLITICAL TURMOIL OF ETHIOPIA ... Where we are heading? By Teccola Where are we heading? Is the present regime of Ethiopia leading the people for their progress and welfare or towards their unrecoverable downfall? This cannot be left to history but it can be witnessed with multitude of evidences presently. Our cherished institutions have been eroded, our constitution reversed, developmental projects and establishments dismantled, rule of law evaded, the basic inalienable human rights are glossed over, opinion expressions are muffled systematically, reign of terror and demaguogic propagandas are every day themes of life, feelings and expressions of the ordinary citizens are desperate and gloomy, there is no way out but terror and agonies.
