Commentaries “OPPOSING EVIL” - Haileselassie Girmay is the skoda of Ethiopian politics (In response to his “To Award or not to Award” article posted on Deki-Alula on 24/07/02)
BY: Dr. G Bekele (25 July 2002)
Not long ago Haileselassie Girmay was a dud brand as rusty, in the eyes of Ethiopians who knows him and analysts, as the smokiest boneshaker from the old East European car factory or shall I say Sumale-Terra in Addis Ababa. Now?

Comments Response to Asfaha's article, "Meles' Hall of Fame Turns out to be Hall of Shame
By Wossen HM (July 24, 2002): I read Asfha's article on Meles Zenawi receiving a purchased "Peace Prize." Asfha's arguments are solid; we need to try to verify before we jump on fanning a news story. However, in this case, it looks Asfha missed the point.

Commentaries Meles’ Hall of Fame turns out to be Hall of Shame
By Asfaha Girmay (July 23, 2002)
The goal of the institution is "... to train competent leaders capable of serving the nation, the church in the spirit of Christ and to open new frontiers in the vast areas of teaching and learning grounded in a Christian world view." This is the goal of Hannam University that is located in Taejon in the Republic of Korea.

Commentaries Deal with the Devil?
By G/Egziabher (July 23, 2002)
The future political configuration in Ethiopia seems to have multiple paths.
a) EPRDF contemplating coalition with undisclosed opposition.
b) EPRDF secretly opening dialogue with TPLF dissidents.
c) Revival of Woyane without Meles. Allemseged’s mission.
d) Some opposition parties rejecting coalition with EPRDF

Commentaries The burning issue of Asseb
Ethiopia vs. TPLF/EPRDF

Ethiopians in Northern California! (July 23, 2002)
There are lots of countries that suffer in the hands of dictators all over Africa and else where in the world. But what makes unique the TPLF dictatorial regime from others is a highly sophisticated design of dismantling its nation, on top of a complete totalitarian rule.

Press Release WPC announcement on the alleged "peace prize"

Commentaries Melles Zenawi's Peace and Honorary Doctorate "Awards"
By Teketel Haile-Mariam (July 22, 2002)
Were the supposed peace and honorary doctoral degree "awards" to Melles Zenawi genuine or pack of deceptions? Many Ethiopians, including myself, felt the award was granted by the World Peace Council, and protested to that organization for honoring a leader whom most Ethiopians despise and feel is leading the country to disaster.

Commentaries Domestic Opposition Parties: Are we Helping Them or Weakening Them? Must read Article
By: Muluken Tefera (July 22, 2002)
In the province of Gojjam there is an Amharic saying which goes like this: "BEKLO GIZU GIZU ANDEM CHEW LAYAGIZU". Roughly interpreted, "…they tell us to buy a Mule over and over again but they are not willing to give even one unit of salt”. There was a time when a unit of solid salt was serving as a medium of exchange in Ethiopia and this traditional saying must have been concocted over that period of time.

Critiques Meles Peace Prize A Hoax?

Critiques "Alleluia! Judas, the King of Terror is crowned"

Commentaries How Myopic is the US Foreign Policy? The Assab Military Base : A Done Deal?
By Alem Asfaw (July 19, 2002)
Greetings from Ethiopia.
What very few have predicted has happened. The Americans have completed the liberation of 'Eritrea' in order to control the Red Sea strategic point. Assab is now in their firm grip. So much for the small minds in the likes of Meles who arrogantly and unashamedly stated that Assab will be a 'drinking well for the camels' of Afarland.

Critiques World Peace Prize Award Council Awards the Banda
By Tedla (July 17, 2002)
It has been said once by one of the great freedom fighter "He got the peace prize, We got the problem. If I am following a general, and he is leading me in to a battle, and the enemy tends to give him rewards,or awards, I get suspicious of him. Especially if he gets a peace awards befor the war is over."

Comments TPLF's Deki Alula has gone too far! By Abraham Haile I am very upset to read TPLF's Deki Alula website venomous attack against the Solidarity. I read a letter from the supposed Editor of the fake Deki Alula to Hmbasha Commentator the latter's website.
Meles Regime would in dangerous if EPRDF armed would not prevent ethnic violence By LOCH OTHOW

Commentaries EDP Must not be rushed to be crushed "Get tough and tender on Meles, countdown to the big victory but don’t rush to crush."
By Dr. G. Bekele
Taking politics out of politics leaves a vacuum or removes what the old Marxists would call the "dialectic." Therefore, now is the time to put the politics back into politics. In the process, we have to improve our arguments not raise our voices.

Critiques EDP Leaders need to come down to earth if they want to win popular support
  By Sissay A. (July 13, 2002)
While in Washington DC, I attended the meeting staged by EDP at the Unification Church during the 4th of July weekend.  I have been EDP's sympathizer and thought that it had a firm stand against Meles Zenawi.  Like most Ethiopians in the Diaspora, I had heard great things about Ato Lidetu.   All and all, I was looking forward to attending the public meeting.

Commentaries The Other Side Of The Revolution
By Beniam! (July 13, 2002)
Elena Shvarts says of Peter the Great the founder of St. Petersburg…. the man "who split Russia in two with his new-whetted knife:/ and spread the dark jam of his serfs on the streets-/ but their souls skipped away as he swatted, like flies."

Comments Demagouges and their false accusations
Nuway: For example a polling vote is posted on the Tigray net (web site) concerning Alemseged G.Amlak's tour in the U.S. The framing and set up of the questionnaire from the out start is not scientific and objective. The polling is open to all nationals including Eritreans, British, Germans, all political parties and national fronts like Oromos, EPRP, AAPO, EDP. The polling is clearly open-to-open hatred and rejection.
TigrayNet staff: Don’t retreat from the truth. We all know that there are two different views especially in the community of Tigrian origin Ethiopians because of Mr. Alemeseged arrival in the USA.Some they support his mission and others opposed. Even here with TigrayNet staffs share those views. We all know that the cause of Deki Alula split is Mr. Alemseged arrival (Source: Hmbasha Commentator, Deki Alula news letter by it self, Tigray Net discussion forum and others).

TigrayNet Tourism and Culture Section Tourism and Heritage
Tigray is among the few in the world, frequently mentioned in civilization and cultural lists of humanity for its universally accepted historic sites. The state has some of the most important historical monuments of the continent. It is very well known for its pre-Christian monuments. The Axum obelisks or Steles (2nd century BC), the pre-Axumite Yeha’s "Temple of The Moon" (5th century BC), bath and palace of the Queen Sheba and the Ark of the Covenant, are among the most prominent.

Commentaries IS THIS THE RIGHT TIME TO HEAR ALEMSEGED CRY?
By DR. G. Bekele
The erstwhile boy of “CAMP-TPLF” and disgraced icon has at last decided he is no longer content with being unemployed dissident but rather be recognized as a Global Statesman and a Saint with an important message from Meles for listeners of the dead Shaebian puppet TPLF. Even after carefully following his recent activities and the so-called good messages he spread in Tigrigna, I am still not entirely sure what his message actually is and why and where on earth does he came from. Above all who were and are his listeners and followers?

Addis Tribune - Commentaries The New Geography of HIV/AIDS
By Gezahegne Bekele, PhD
It has been over twenty years since AIDS emerged as a disease. The world has learnt a lot about the disease since then. Most of all, we have learned that the disease is humankinds' biggest plague ever and capable of ruining countries and their social systems, freezing the development aspirations of already slow-growing economies, and escalating the misery of the poor and marginalized segments of society.

The Reporter - Editorial Do party-affiliated "endowments" really serve the public's interest?
There are several trading and industrial ventures affiliated with the EPRDF. They are spread throughout the country. In terms of size, they rank first or second among business entities in Ethiopia. The only business concern comparable to them is MIDROC, owned by Sheik Mohammad al-Almoudi. They are engaged in various sectors of the economy-be it in banking, industry, transport service, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, trading etc.

Commentaries Saving Meles: Ethiopian Politicos and Their Scheme

There is underway another effort of the government of the United States working through surrogates to save the government of Meles Zenawi by creating a coalition with AAPO, ARDUF, EDP, EPRP, and OLF.

Commentaries Of course TPLF was anti Ethiopia!!! (Response to H. Abadi July 1, 2002)
By H. Asmerom (July 3, 2002)
I have read the commentary by H. Abadi "TPLF was not anti-Ethiopia" and I would like to air my view. I have few comments to make on the above commentary.
