Heavy Government in Rich Countries
TIGRAINET HIGHLIGHTS

A Cosmic Evil
As we see it, the deplorable situation prevailing in Iraq proves beyond any shadow of doubt that the US is in that former haven of peace and stability then secured by the authoritarian presence of Saddam Hussein to destroy an ancient seat of human civilization in retaliation for what had unfortunately happened in New York on September 11, 2001. Iraq was not certainly responsible in any way for that tragedy.
In fact, most of the perpetrators of the great evil that had befallen New York had originated in Saudi Arabia and Egypt – whose governments happen to be two Arab darlings of the west. The US and its western allies were only carrying out a devastating strike on Iraq for the simple reason that Saddam Hussein – who had no weapons of mass destruction – was posing a serious threat to their interests in the Middle East.

"I was waiting for someone else to do it (to lead). I run reasonably well. But I was tired from the 10.000m."
"I was strong and I didn't face any particular problem. But it is a race and in a race someone must be first and someone else second" Kenenisa BEKELE

"We were really motivated to beat the Turkish girl, because she said she would beat us before the race," Defar said.
Bekele, the world-record holder in both the 5000m and 10,000m, just missed becoming the sixth man to win both events in the same Games.
"I was quite tired because of the 10,000m and the semifinals. It was not an easy race. The field was very strong so I am pleased with winning the silver. Us, the Ethiopians, tried to run together but today that wasn't enough for me to win."

Berhane Unfairly Treated!
Currently, there is no transparency in the ways the Ethiopian Athletics Federation conducts business. This has led to corruption and favoritism. The Ethiopian Athletics Federation has to be transparent in the way it conducts business. There should also be a clear standard for the selection of athletes to represent Ethiopia in major competitions. This will help eliminate corruption and favoritism that was clearly the reason that led to the dropping of Berhane Adere from the Olympic team.

Time for transparency from the Athletics Federation
The controversy that arose both in the men’s and the women’s long distance Olympic events has refocused the sport’s public to the issue of withholding information from the public or lack of transparency within the Athletic Federation.
If failure is the result of these shenanigans in Athens, it would be unfortunate and the agitated public would blame the Athletic Federation.

Beating "The Turkish girl" -a metaphor

For sustainable-africa.org
"We were really motivated to beat the Turkish girl, because she said she would beat us before the race" Meseret Defar
Thank you Meseret Defar for your words of determination! In fact, whenever I think of my country, the dominating source of my inspiration is what our heroes and heroines - the athletes - do and say. When the word Yichalal was associated with our hero Haile Gebreselassie, I was motivated to write one of my first internet articles entitled "The Green Implications of Yichalal" that later was used as a spring board for my akababi website. Here we ago again, the daughter of Defar, Meseret provides me another foundation for a short reflection on our country.

In the busy Churchill road of Ethiopian Capital, between the monuments of communist revolution & that of St. Peter’s, above the tin slums stands out a green mosque .It is one of the 50 others which were built in Addis Abeba during last year alone. In the barrack near by, a handsome Arab disposes cartons –inside there are clothes & medicine. We distribute them among street children, we feed them, dress them, teach them how to write & read, I am a teacher.

Analysis Why Join the "Big Noise"?
By G. E. Gorfu. (August 6, 04)
An article by Ato Getachew Assefa appeared on some Internet sites recently advocating why those of us in the Diaspora should join the "Big Noise" to petition and demand a fair market price for our coffee, as prices have fallen on an all time low. Even though this is an action that many can and should join, I have never been one to join a bandwagon, and I am not going to be one to do so at this time. My reasons are as follows:

Gorfu Contra Neitzsch - Book Review
By AlemSeghed Kebede
G. E. Gorfu has made a name for himself by engaging with the work of Fredric Nietzsche, considered by many as one of the most important thinkers of the Ninetieth Century. However, Gorfu Contra Nietzsche is not just another addition to the already existing pile of literature on Nietzsche. Writing vivaciously and with clarity, Gorfu has brought to our attention a vital trait of Nietzsche which is often put aside by the scholars of this controversial thinker. In this venture, Gorfu has demonstrated not only his depth of understanding of Nietzsche's work, but his command over the history of philosophy as well. Very few out-establishment thinkers have succeeded in this manner.
