No wonder why Mekelle University school of Law fired professor Salisbury
On her recent interview with Ethiomedia professor Salibury speaks the truth. First I would say thank you professor for revealing the truth. Professor Salibury telling us that how she has been developed ill-feeling toward Mekelle University since she arrived in Mekelle. Below is the highlighted how she has developed negativity on the university
- "Students commonly visit professors’ offices to beg for money or otherwise harass them."
- "I was provided with very little practical information, and had to figure out what to do as I went along. I had been led to believe that I would be given housing along with other instructors, but when I arrived I discovered that I was the only American at Mekele University and I would have to find my own housing."
- "The students wanted only to be given facts to memorize, and became angry if asked to analyze ideas or provide their own thoughts on something. I was utterly shocked at the students’ expectations. Clearly they had always been taught that way. Other foreign instructors told me they had similar experiences."
- "I was surprised to see the clause in the contract, but there was nothing I could do. It was a non-negotiable form contract written by someone at the university. Thus, I chose not to bring it up with the dean, lest I be labeled a troublemaker at the outset."
Nice try professor, your argument didn't convinced me that you are telling the truth. I thought you are a law professor and can argue better than that. Well, as an individual observer you are completely biased and seem “incompetent” to teach at Mekelle University . For being said so this much on the good professor I would like to say something to the university too. I am always wondering why universities in Ethiopia hired foreign professors with more pay instead of train and keep Ethiopia professors. At the same time I understand sometimes it is important to hire experienced foreign professors with regard the subject matter, like technology and science. But in law area I don’t see the advantage. In stead of complaining on the so-called issue of “Brain Drain” pay better and keep them.
