Subagadis Woldu: Buried with his “ Face Towards the Sea “

Subagais, his baptismal name, za-manfas Qedus, was born circa 1770 AD and died around 1831.

Subagadis was the first Ethiopian to build peaceful relationships with other countries in modern times. As a result he was seen in Europe in 1820 as a diplomatic champion.

Subagadis maintained constant communication with most the lords all over Ethiopia and building upon his reputation.

Subagadis had three sons, Dejazmach Hagos Subagadis, Aregawi Subagadis, and Woldemichael Subagadis. He was survived by Aregawi and Woldemichael.

In 1832, one year after his death, people all over Ethiopia lamented Subagadis:

Alas! Subagadis the friend of all,
Has fallen at Daga shaha,
Alas! Subagadis, the pillar of the poor,
Has fallen at Daga Shaha, weltering in his blood,
The people of this country, will they find it a good thing
To eat ears of corn which have grown in the blood?
Who will remember Saint Michael of November to give alms?

Subagadis' bones were carried to a monastery in Northern Ethiopia called Gunde Gunde, where he was buried at his request with his “ Face Towards the Sea.” Subagadis ruled the whole coastal line and he had strong belief and understood the importance of the sea to his country. Emperor Bahr Negus Yisaq, Emperor Ghelawdewos, Subagadis fought with foreign invaders like their predecessors to safeguard their coastal land.

Ato Meles wrong name ( right name Ato Atifi or Awardi ) has defiled our history and our land.

We Ethiopians It is our duty to stand to oppose Ato Meles' false policy. Otherwise he does not seem to understand what our ancestors understood.
