RESOLUTIONS PASSED BY THE T.I.S.J.D.TORONTO CHAPTER
ON THE PLANNED ILLEGAL ETHIOPIA- ERITREA BOUNDARY DEMARCATION
It is to be recalled that the Ethiopian people have totally
rejected the Algiers Agreement signed illegally on December 12, 2000 between Meles
Zenawi from Ethiopia and Issayas Afeworki from Eritrea and underlined that the agreement
was based on non-existing and non-binding so-called colonial treaties of 1900,
1902, and 1908. The Ethiopian people believe that the Agreement was concluded
without their knowledge, desire, and consent. In line with this, the Tigrayan
International Solidarity for Justice and Democracy Toronto Chapter (TISJDTC) at
its Extraordinary General Meeting held on April 20, 2003 in the premises of the
University of Toronto has passed resolutions on the unacceptable decision made by
the United Nations Ethiopia-Eritrea Boundary Commission (EEBC) hired to dismember
and demarcate Ethiopia’s inviolable borders.
Before passing the Resolutions, participants of the Extraordinary
General Meeting raised and highlighted many issues some of which are the following:
- The prime cause and agent for the current border crisis including other political
and economic catastrophes in Ethiopia is the treasonous leadership of Meles Zenawi.
- The bizarre involvement of the United Nations in Ethiopia’s territorial and sovereignty matters is totally disappointing and unacceptable.
- The Ethiopian people have subsequently been cheated, betrayed, and forcibly silenced to extent not to utter a word on their inviolable territorial integrity and other fundamental rights by Meles Zenawi’s leadership first in 1993 on the one-sided and imposed Eritrean Referendum and subsequently in 2000 on the so-called Algiers Agreement.
- The border crisis was deliberately created by Meles Zenawi’s regime and its counterpart in Eritrea to revive and enforce dead, non-exiting and non-binding colonial treaties; make the village town of Bademe as the main focus of the dispute while Eritrea takes the mineral rich and agriculturally resourceful Bademe region at large and other areas; and intentionally ignore other key border territories such as Tsorena, Irob, Bure, and Ethiopia’s natural access to the Red Sea to be given to Eritrea with no controversies.
- Given the immense sacrifices the Ethiopian people have paid for, the border crisis is fundamentally and entirely an Ethiopian issue unlike the government of Meles Zenaw’s mortal intent to make it a “small local” issue.
- Meles Zenawi being Commander-in-chief has treasonously aborted the shinning victories of the justified counteroffensive of the Ethiopian Armed Forces by summarily and personally giving orders to his collaborative loyal generals to pull back. This was secretly designed to encourage and instill attacks and casualties at the back of the pulling Ethiopian forces as evidenced in Barentu and Tsorena battled field areas. Meles has done that to weaken and bend the intrepid and gallant sprit of the Ethiopian army so as to facilitate his premeditated plan of handing over Ethiopian territories to Eritrea.
- Ethiopia at present has no a representative government and a true political leader
who can resolutely and uncompromisingly uphold, defend, and protect its national
interests in general and the border issue in particular.
Having extensively and thoroughly discussed and assessed the current political situation
in Ethiopia, Members and Supporters of the Tigrayan International Solidarity for Justice
and Democracy Toronto Chapter have once again unanimously and entirely rejected the
flawed and unacceptable decisions of the EEBC that is being imposed on Ethiopia’s
inviolable and sacred sovereignty and territorial integrity and hence have adopted and
passed the following Resolutions:
- We condemn and totally reject the secret agreement reached in Algiers on December 12, 2000 between Meles Zenawi and Issayas Afeworki of Eritrea based on void and non-applicable colonial treaties (conspiracies) of 1900, 1902, and 1908.
- We condemn as naked treason Meles Zenawi’s repeated shameful and outrageous public speeches that dishonor and denigrate Ethiopia’s territorial integrity by portraying resource rich Bademe region as “dusty town,” Asseb as “camel water hole,” Irob region as “unfit for grazing land,” etc.
- We call upon the Ethiopian Armed Forces to totally reject Meles repeated deceits and betrayals and hence to remain vigilant to execute and fulfill their national duties and responsibilities in defense of the inviolable and sacred Ethiopian national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
- We call upon the people of Bademe, Tsorona, Irob, Bure and other territories to totally reject the eviction orders to be issued by the treasonous government of Meles Zenawi for they are intended to move them out from their ancestral lands and environments and place them in eternal suffering as landless and rootless wanderers in the unknown. Squalid
- We demand the immediate return, rehabilitation, and full compensation of all Ethiopians who have been displaced from their homes and ancestral lands as a result of the Eritrean war aggression and are still suffering in squalid and uninhabitable camps.
- We hail and extend our solidarity to those Ethiopians in the armed forces as well as
in the civil service who have been determinedly and heroically opposing and exposing
the corrupt and dictatorial administration of Meles Zenawi and his clique and demand the
unconditional release of all political prisoners.
- We call upon all demobilized soldiers, dismissed former freedom fighters, members of the opposition political parties, and other democratic forces to immediately and primarily forge unity and remain vigilant against the treasonous leadership of Meles Zenawi.
- We demand the immediate termination of the preparations being made for the border delimitation and demarcation and the unconditional withdrawal of the United Nations Mission in Ethiopia and its so-called Peace Keeping Forces from Ethiopian territories as soon as possible.
- We call upon the Ethiopian Parliament to faithfully dispense its responsibility as delegated and entrusted to it by the Ethiopian people and firmly and strongly uphold and defend Ethiopian sacred sovereignty and territorial integrity.
- Finally, having recognized and believed his dictatorial and treasonous activities
and leadership to be the core menace for Ethiopia’s peace, unity, stability, and
integrity, we unequivocally demand the immediate removal of Meles Zenawi, the imposter
prime minister of Ethiopia from all his positions and be put on trial for treasons.
