OUR LEADERS' DEEDS ARE MORE WORRYING THAN THEIR LOOKS

By A.G. Tsegay

I don't like to dwell on an issue that I thought had been settled. But, Mr.Getachew Reda after his "moving thought on Dr. Bekele's article" has taken the matter further in his article "As There is No limit to Praise Our Saints of The Sky, There is no Limit As Well For Bashing & cursing The Devil of Earth Either! (This Is A Respond To That Fraudulent Fragrant pen)".

Mr. Reda is reading too much into my "quarter page" "Meles-Bashing "must read article"". To someone who can read and comprehend, there is nothing in the article that, even vaguely, implicates the author as a Banda, however the reader defines "Banda". My article is meant to underline the fact that an expression of emotion bordering on insanity can simply distort the good intension of an article and gives it a wrong meaning. Here, I used the word "insanity" and knowing the sensitivity of some readers, I would like to explain why I decided to use such a controversial word.

Dr. Bekele in his article "Unite to beat evil forces and the future is yours! <http://www.tigrai.org/News/Articles2002/Bekele.html> " uses Meles's physique to justify his assertion and goes further to imply that short people are not trustworthy. I don't think a sane person would go to such length to annoy millions to attack just one man. Dr. Bekele cannot hide behind a satire either, as the article he wrote is in no way near a satire. Can the author shade a light on how Ethiopia is disadvantaged by mele's stature? Only, in the absent of matters of grave concern does Dr. Bekele's article warrant reading. Unfortunately, at the moment Ethiopia finds itself at a crossroads and it could be wise to challenge our leaders to account for the way they rule the country rather than their looks.

I can go on and on dissecting Dr. Bekele's article to show how distasteful it is to most readers. Simply put, it is vulgar, loosely written article fraught with contradictions. Mr. Reda is not far behind his mentor, Dr. Bekele, in learning the trade of denigration. Honestly, there isn't much to be gained from character assassination or heaping abuse on people that we don't agree with. Let us learn to attack the offending views and deeds of our leader that we don't approve of, instead of wasting time and energy on issues that are either irrelevant or mask the main objective of our views and criticisms. Despite Mr. Reda's uncalled-for comments, I still stand by every word I wrote in my short article "Meles-Bashing "must read article".

PPS: Dear Dr. Bekele, the "Must Read" status to my "quarter page" article is in fact mine it is part of the title. Why write 8 pages when I can say what I wanted to say in a "quarter page"
