Ethiopian Human Rights Council (EHRCO) recent report shows that, Ethiopia`s unresolved economic,social and political problems have continued to plunge the country deep in to the morass of poverty,hardship, misery and this criticall situation has assumed extremely serious dimensions.
According to the Ministry of Labour and Social affairs, the number of street children in Ethiopia has reached alarming proportions,with estimated 100,000 to 200,000 .
In the Capital city Addis Ababa alone according to the UN Childrens Fund (UNICEF) estimates, there are some 50,000 to 60,000 street kids. There are also thousands of beggars, homeless Citizens, many of whom have left their villages in the countryside to try and make a living in the Capital .
To reduce the number of homeless,beggars,and street kids in the Capital, the Ethiopian government security forces few weeks back as we have wittnessed, they took e-human action against fellow Citizens, dumping them like a garbage in the dark to a jungle known as Gorfu forest some 55kms away from Addis Ababa. Some make the trip back to the Capital and some of them end up in the jaws of the wild beast (hyenas). This crime commited against fellow Citizens , reminds me day back, when the white Colonizers and slavers took the Africans as a slave from their mother land, and on the way to the western world when they give our African brothers and sisters to the sharks.
The displaced Ethiopian Citizens who are the victims of war, after their long march from Eritrea, and the trauma they have suffered make their way to the Capital City and settled at one stage around 57,000 people who were housed in 53 camps following the end of the marxist regime in 1991. This Ethiopian Citizens are labeled or suspected by the TPLF government of being loyal to former president Col. Mengistu Hailemariam and they are treated like a criminal until this present day.
In Kaliti area alone, there were 14 camps for 17,000 displaced people. Already the police and local authorities have cleared three camps and the families in the remaining 11 camps have been told to leave by 19 september 2002. International organisations no longer help these people,food for work schemes have ended,the charities working at the camp having now pulled out according to the latest report . The TPLF government has taken such a measure without making any preparations to this displaced Ethiopian Citizens. It is clear to all, why the government is doing this to fellow brothers and sisters,for simple fact this people are labeled as enemies and allies to the former marxist regimes by TPLF leaders so they do care little !!!
Few days back, to one of my friend from Addis Ababa I called him to say hi and he told me about the hyenas around Addis Ababa. He said, all the hyenas are well fed by TPLF leaders. All the hyenas in one voice they are saying long live for TPLF leaders because the government is taking care of us, so that we will not become extinct like other animals. They said also more food is coming, it`s on the way. He said again, the hyenas are saying no body take care of us like TPLF leaders. My friend always he like to tell things in a simple way so that i can understand him. Our fathers they use to say " neger bemesale, tige b-berela "
