RE: Construction of a High School in Ahseha and How You Can Help

Date: October 10, 2002

Introduction

We all know that education is key and the purpose of our solicitation is for you to assist the young residents of Ahseha become self-sufficient members of society by constructing a high school they can attend, which will benefit us all. Our plan to help construct a high school in Ahseha must be methodical and well planned involving both the government and average citizens of Ahseha.

The government is currently building elementary and middle schools in Ahseha, but due to serious lack of resources the government is unable to build high schools, which is why we seek your help. As a result of not having high schools in Ahseha there are nearly 30,000 people in the area whose children are unable to attend high school, which creates even larger social problems. The policy of the government in this matter is that the members of individual communities should initiate the construction of secondary schools and the government will then assist in the ways the government can. With this mind, persons from Ahseha and other considered citizens have taken the initiative and have already started building a high school, but we still need your help.

What Has Been Accomplished So Far:

  1. The various Kebelles within the Wered have established committees chartered to raise money for our charitable purpose. Government employees and merchants have already raised 10,000 Birr: and
  2. On his own initiative Araya Assefa Fanta has given 4,000 Birr for the establishment of the foundation (or beginning the construction of the high school). In addition, the local people are contributing by giving moral and financial support, and the government has given us the land on which to build the school.
  3. We have made our need for a high school in Ahseha known to citizens of Ahseha and to ex-patriots living in America, but we are still in need of more help to further assist the young people in Ahseha who finish the eight grade, but are not able to go any further in their education and instead of return to their families’ farms. And those that do not return to the family farm still wind up becoming unproductive and/or disruptive members of society without additional educational training. Currently, there are only a handful of young persons who finish the eight grade and later become eligible for a university education. We can solve this problem if we all work together and what we need from you is moral, technical and whatever financial support you can provide to see us achieve our goal and in the process develop our nation. Even though we face economical and distance problems, the following people are willing to represent us in minimizing the economic and distance problem we face:
    1. Dr. Kidane Mariam Hile-Mariam
    2. Quishe (Priest) Muse Berhe Reda
    3. Mergeta Daniel Nebeya Loul
    4. Ato. Araya Assefa Fanta
  1. Any person wanting to directly send money, can send money to:
