“OPPOSING EVIL”
HAILESELASSIE GIRMAY IS
THE SKODA OF ETHIOPIAN POLITICS

Not long ago Haileselassie Girmay was a dud brand as rusty, in the eyes of Ethiopians who knows him and analysts, as the smokiest boneshaker from the old East European car factory or shall I say Sumale-Terra in Addis Ababa. Now? Like modern Skodas, he gleams. But not much left for him. A half-chewed flip-top in the corner of the cage. He has a forlorn satchel and the scattered remains of discarded ambition. It was one of the most inaccurate and distorted article I have seen. Oh God! Where should he die? He had rattled the cage. All bandas and Ethiopian enemies like him should be sent to Eritrea. Period!

He may sound noisy, boastful, and fanatically muscular on the World Wide Web with his over-sugared sarcasm and his “Poems On Walk”, which I do not wish to go into details but for those who know him very well and followed his political manoeuvrings and acrobats carefully, he has been wrong on all counts for many years. That was why in her well-written article “Wedi Dejach-Gerelasse or Wedi-Alula Aba-Nega? Divide and Rule The Mark of the Beast”, Eyrusalem Beirhu told him strongly to refrain from writing articles against the Ethiopian people and in support of Meles’s regime for which he has been part and parcel of those deceptive activities for many years. Should I go to details and kick him where it hearts? No! Time will tell. He has learned nothing from history.

What a contrast! What a shaming eye-opener! The ritual stomp of Mr Girmay’s argument looked like a fight over a bag of boiled sweets in a boy’s school playground, circa 1950. No shouting, no baying, no childishness at all. Could politics really look like this? For Haileselassie, the playground may have been a nice little earner. He could be out of a group of miserable hacks around our Embassies who are regularly patted on the back to write these articles. That is why he always comes up with his articles to sound like a religious and most wise person to advice his children, the Ethiopian people. And this happens only when Meles is in trouble or the government is caught with false deceptions. No wonder the innocent Ethiopian public is getting cynical about our political process.

The truth is, his article is puerile point scoring, a yah-hoo nonsense, which has done more to debase the reputation of politicians and web sites than anything else and that includes the Meles regime which he was trying to defend with deception on his mind. Nowadays any fool can be famous: in fact, it helps in his circle. But he cannot fool us. His arguments are biased, and sounded as relic from old political days. His complaints carry “gross acts of bad faith, inaccuracy and unfairness.” He doesn’t sound genuine and a matured man of politics. But it seems to be just as persistent. “He is back! It is Haileselassie Girmay, the Skoda of Ethiopian politics! Hold onto your insurances guys in case he rides over you.

It’s amazing to read his mind-boggling accusations against web sites, opposition parties and writers all the time. It’s funny and pathetic. The problem is when he spills over into downright distortion of every truth, which it pretty frequently did corrode understanding in a big way. Why can’t he tell us he is a Meles supporter, anti-Meles like us or shut-up? I have nothing against polemical newspapers or articles, but the complete mingling of facts and opinions by Haileselassie Girmay has got worse and worse with an increasingly partisan politics going downward all the time. We really shouldn’t listen to him because he really does not have Ethiopia’s best interest at heart. A lot of things can be said about him.

The sin is not only attacking the public or the web sites for doing good jobs for their country out of sheer malice, though there is plenty of that but also blindly denying the facts. Of course we know, deep down, the contents of his article was all a load of old cobblers and another trick from his TPLF leaders. It was the worst kind of hypocrisy against the nation. The public appeared to be open-minded, notwithstanding the wounds and the scars such people have inflicted on them in the past eleven years. I am really disappointed, disgusted and frustrated about his behaviour. We should not read nor believe his garbage’s any more. Above all, we have to say enough is enough, name and shame the bandas.

The idea that somehow or you make everything right by cutting out the tongue of those who point out that things are wrong or is an utter lie is foolish concept. It doesn’t achieve anything. You also hit others first only if you know they were going to hit you. In this case it was the government who should have defended their false and deceptive activities not use Haileselassie Girmay who probably know nothing about the award or the honorary degree. He writes as if he is entirely devoted to truth, justice and liberty, which also clearly indicated that he is out of touch with the growing concern about our country. It is inconceivable even for him to write such thing after the whole truth came out to the public.

I hope he will have the sense to let the writers and the web sites get on with the good job of rebuilding the unity of our people without the distraction of unnecessary hoops, targets, lies, pretensions and wheezes from Mr Girmay or the likes who are fully engaged with the distractions of our country and history. They have lost their breast chance to score therefore only talk tish and tosh. Just because he believes in defence of the Master Monster does not mean he is a surrogate for Meles or that he wants to blow the world up for being humiliated by the so-called peace award and fake honorary degree. Mr Girmay is rather pompous than his qualities merit, so he puffed out his chest and tried to fool us. He wanted to be on the front line politics not a back seat driver within the TPLF.

Therefore, it was a big measure of Mr. Girmay’s fatherly and majestically dysfunctional language that even the insults he flings regularly on the general public and the web sites need in the future to be accompanied by interpreters. For me, it is a matter of morale. If you can’t land a few blow on the bandas who support the destruction of our country and the sufferings of our nation, who are also facing lot of severe problems for being bandas, many of their making, then the real and loyal Ethiopians are going to get worried and anxious and altogether nervous about you. We are at war with our enemies. Aren’t we? W a k e - u p!

PS: Did he say the Novel Prize is next? Good Lord, no! … Long Live Ethiopia!!
